المستخلص: يهتم هذا البحث بمناقشة وتقييم رأي كلٍ من فيرستيغ Versteegh و أوِنز Owens حول أصول اللهجات العربية المعاصرة. ورغم أن هناك آراءً لمستعربين متقدمين إلا أنها كانت عمومية ولا توغل في تفاصيل الحدث اللغوي الذي أخرج عبر عصور متعاقبة لهجات تبدو بعيدة عن العربية الفصحى. ويهدف البحث إلى توضيح خلفيات مواقف المستعربين حول نشأة اللهجات العربية وخاصة فيرستيغ وأونز، والنتائج والإشكالات المترتبة على تلك الآراء. وبما أن هذه الورقة تركز على الأطُر النظرية التي فهم من خلالها المستعربون تاريخَ اللغة العربية فسوف يتم التوصل إلى أهداف هذه الدراسة من خلال جمع الآراء المختلفة والبحث عن جذور تلك الآراء في أعمال المستعربين المتقدمين؛ لربط الآراء الحديثة بالقديمة. ثم يتم تقويم الآراء وهي عبارة عن نظرية كل من فيرستيغ وأونز عبر إسقاط كل نظرية على تاريخ العربية في جوانب عدة مثل انتشار اللغة واتصالها باللغات الأخرى وظاهرة اللهجات العامية. ومما وقف عليه هذا البحث بعد عرض ومناقشة الآراء، قوة وثبات قانون التطور اللغوي في مقابل قوانين اللغة المبسطة التي لا تزال تحتاج إلى الأدلة الصلبة في الحالة اللغوية العربية. ومن خلال الإشكالات التي تظهر عند تقييم رأي كل من فيرستيغ وأونز يوصي البحث بعدم الركون إلى فرع معين لفهم ظاهرة اللهجات العربية وذلك لأن مشهد تاريخ العربية بالغ التعقيد.
Abstract: This paper focuses on discussing and evaluating the opinion of Versteegh and Owens on the origins of contemporary Arabic dialects. Although some early Arabists have their opinion regarding this issue, their opinions were general and did not go into the details of the linguistic scenario, which has produced dialects that seem far from the Standard Arabic over the successive eras. The research aims to clarify the background of the positions of the Arabists about the emergence of the Arabic dialects, especially Versteegh and Owens, and the consequences and problems arising from those opinions. Since this paper focuses on the theoretical frameworks through which the Arabists understood the history of Arabic language, the objectives of this study will be reached by collecting different opinions and searching for the roots of those opinions in the works of the early Arabists, to relate modern opinions to the early ones. Then the opinions are evaluated, which is about the theory of both Versteegh and Owens, by projecting each theory on the history of Arabic in several aspects such as the spread of the language and its connection with other languages and the phenomenon of colloquial dialects. And among the findings of this research after the presentation and the discussion of opinions, is the strength and stability of the law of linguistic evolution in contrast to the laws of the simplified language, which still need solid evidence in the Arabic linguistic case. Through the problems that surface when evaluating the opinion of both Versteegh and Owens, the research recommends not relying on a specific branch to understand the phenomenon of Arabic dialects, because the scope of Arabic history is very complex.
